Awesome Snorkeling Adventure

Our Crew on the Jonny Quest was Skipper Hayden who was very thorough explaining about where we were going, what we doing and how we would do it. He was very knowledgeable about St. Thomas and the USVI including a lot of history of the islands as well as the sea life and what we would see at each of our 3 stops. Josh who served us a light breakfast also served us drinks drinks and was practical crew on the boat. Michael who was the chef and bartender, also helped us in and out of the water, prepared a wonderful and generous lunch, made excellent drinks and was very accomplished with making special requested drinks. He was also very friendly with a playful sense of humor. Everyone was concerned with our safety and helped us enjoy a good time. They were very watchful with us in the water.
The under water experience was exceptional. We saw many turtles, colorful fish and coral. On the last stop a shark swam with a few feet of my husband and I. We sat on the smallest beach in the USVI called the Mermaids Seat aka Two Butt Beach. It was a great day all around.

Had awesome time with captain Hayden and Cam. Very knowledgeable and helpful on the trip. My girlfriend was scared at first, but Hayden helped her overcome her fear which made for an awesome time for us and the family. As well as Cam’s funny jokes. Thank you guys!
A must do is St. Thomas!!!

Our experience was fantastic Captain Hayden and First Mate Cam are very skilled at what they do. They made sure every aspect of our trip was safe as well they made sure our experience was fun. We went as a family of 4 and we enjoyed every part of this trip, every stop was very cool... amazing views, turtles, sea rays and all types of fish. Hayden and Cam even took us out to see a ship wreck. This experience was amazing!!!

The captain Stuart and assistant Camry were very friendly and knowledgeable. We had lots of fun and saw many fishes at each stop . Food was lovely even for vegetarians like us and drinks were nonstop ( alcoholic and nonalcoholic)

Perfect First Day on St Thomas /St John

Great snorkel trip we intentionally booked for our first full day in order to learn about St. John and plan for the rest of the week. Very good for travel with our 20 yr old because he could go a little further out from boat/stay out on each stop a little longer than his parents without sacrificing the feel of a family outing.
Food was great! Plenty of variety and Mike is a trained Chef, which can be important for food safety in a hot climate. The “painkiller” rum/fruit juice drinks were perfect!
I asked why this trip was so much higher rated on trip advisor than the company’s catamaran outing. The powerboat engine=getting across to St John faster which gives you 3 snorkel stops instead of 2. That gives better variety of sea-life and more coastline stories about the history and colorful celebrity regulars.
Stewart has been a captain for 12 years and she has the formal patter down cold, but you also get a sense that she and first mate Mikey genuinely enjoy their jobs and enjoy the guests. That’s refreshing after having experiences on other islands where we felt staff tolerated guest interactions. We got a lot of tips about what to see when we come over to St. John on the car ferry.

Had a wonderful snorkeling experience with Hayden and Cam! We hit three different snorkeling spots on St Johns, including Honeymoon Beach and Christmas Cove. Each spot included a full hour of snorkeling, allowing ample time to see fish, turtles, and sting rays. Hayden and Cam explained each spot and helped us find marine life - Cam even found a starfish that he let us hold. A great tour to enjoy snorkeling in the crystal blue waters of St John and St Thomas!

If you book one excursion during your vacation make it this one! Great way to see St. John from the water. We stopped at 3 beautuful snorkel spots to see turtles, rays and fish! Stewart, Cam and Mike took great care of us and provided an amazing lunch, awesome drinks and good tunes!

This was our 2nd trip with Breakaway. 8 years prior we did the old Virgin Gorda/BVI trip that they no longer can do.
We had our two now-grown sons with us for a day of snorkeling over at St. John.
Captain Stewart (a lady, by the way), Cam (first mate), and Mikey (a wise-cracking 2nd mate) were the crew. The crew handled the always bumpy ride through Pillsbury Sound beautifully and found moorings for us in Maho and Caneel bays. As snorkeling goes, Maho is bland, other than the turtles. Caneel is really awesome. Word of caution: you need to be a good swimmer on these tours if you plan to snorkel. If you have little kids, you need to be with them when they snorkel. You will be dealing with ocean currents unless you have a super calm day, which are rare down here.
The food and drink on the boat was great. Lunch absolutely surpassed all expectations I had - you could tell how genuinely thrilled the captain was with the quality of the lunch and that was good to see. There is plenty of beer/pop/water on the boat. And they do serve painkillers on board also. I drank them all day and never felt a thing (because I don’t think there is actually any rum in them), but that was fine with me.
At all times it seemed like this crew genuinely cared about their passengers having fun. They were friendly, but focused on operating the tour, which is a ton of work. I tipped them $20 per person at the end. Final note: if you don’t like kids or want an “intimate experience” then this trip isn’t for you. The boat will be full (25-30 people) and there will be kids on board (doesn’t bother me one bit).

The boat crew was very friendly and knowledgeable. There were lots of food and pretty much unlimited drinks (soft and alcoholic). We snorkeled at three spots, one spot was St. John. The second spot was also in St. John but it was too crowded and the captain decided to take us somewhere else. This tour is worth the price. The only thing I didn’t like was that we had to stop to pick up the other group at Margaritaville, and this took some time. Essentially, we boarded around 8 AM and started heading to St. John and had breakfast around 9:30 ish. Other than that, I will recommend this tour to family and friends.

Excellent sailing day with Haven and Michael as our captain and first mate. They took us to three great snorkeling areas, they were very to attentive to passengers, friendly and nice. We loved our experience and highly recommend it to anyone visiting ST. Thomas vacationing. Best snorkeling trip we ever joined. We will return and use them again.
